Leningrad Region and Peter I
The journey along “Peter’s Towns” route will allow the tourist to be imbued with the glorious time of the crucial changes for Russia, to learn more about reforms and valours of the Great Russian Emperor Peter I.
Guests of the Town of Schliesselburg will hear the story of one of the oldest and unusual towns, the appearance of which is decorated with the panorama of “Oreshek” (“Nut”) Fortress laid in 1323, a monument to the Emperor Peter the Great and hydraulic facilities – canals, sluices built by order of the Emperor. Visiting of Volkhov District and the Town of Novaya Ladoga founded in 1704 by order of Peter the Great will continue the story of formation of the fleet and development of navigation in Russia.
The route also includes visiting the complex of the former Nikolo-Medvedsky monastery, the snow-white spire of the bell tower of which attracts attention of travellers from afar. In the Town of Lodeynoye Pole, the tourist will visit the place of launching the firstling of the Baltic Fleet – “Standart” frigate. Besides, the travellers will have dinner at “Peter’s Assembly” where they will be able to familiarize themselves with the Rules of Etiquette introduced by the Emperor Peter I for feasts.
