We invite everyone who wants to become better acquainted with Russian folk culture to make an ethnic trip around Leningrad Region.

For centuries, Russia have carefully preserved its wealth, and today we have an incredible opportunity to visit wonderful places, which, despite the hectic pace of modern life, have preserved Russian national colors.

An ethnographic exhibition dedicated to the life of the indigenous population of the Karelian Isthmus since ancient times (5,000 years BC) until the new time was created in the historical-ethnographic museum "Yalkala" (Ilyichevo, Vyborgsky district). The former house of the Parviainen family house an ethnographic exposition is created. The exibition recreats the situation in the Finnish farmstead of the first third of the 20th century.

In the Vinnytsia House of Culture, the Vepsa Folklore Center was opened on the initiative of the inhabitants of the Vinnytsia village of the Podporozhsky district in order to preserve and develop traditional Vepsian crafts and language. Here you can also visit the Vepsian Folk Museum, a puppet theater. Local masters' exhibitions are held often.

In the village of Vistino of Kingisepp district, the Izhora Ethnographic Museum operates, which preserves and revives the customs, rituals and culture of the Izhora nationality. The exposition presents objects of everyday life and ethnography, painting, graphics and sculpture. There is a club at the museum, where meetings, concerts, holidays, classes on studying the languages ​​of the indigenous population areheld.

The Lodeino-Polskie Local History Museum in Lodeynoye Pole is famous for its ethnographic collection: the exposition "Peasant Life" tells about traditional crafts, traditions, life of the indigenous population of a multinational city.

The specificity of the Boksitogorsky district lies in the fact that apart from the Russian population, the Baltic and Finnish peoples live here compactly: the Veps and Karelians, so when stocking collections of the Pikalevsky local lore museum, special attention was paid to the subjects of everyday life and ethnography of these nationalities.

The interest of a large number of tourists is attracted by folklore and historical festivals and festivals, demonstrating the culture of small indigenous peoples.

Annually in village Vinnitsa Podporozhsky region Veps folklore festival is held. The festival "Tree of Life" is a plexus of pagan holidays and modern festivities, in which representatives of indigenous peoples of the north and north-east of the Leningrad region - Veps, Finns, Karelians, national ensembles from the Leningrad and Vologda regions, the Republic of Karelia participate. In the program of the holiday: competitions, shows, theatrical village gatherings, etc. For the guests of the festival, master classes and excursions are held: "Treasured places of Veps worship", "Clothes of Veps", "Modern master".

The traditional weekend of Veps culture "ENARNE MA" is held in the first weekend of July in the village of Tervenichi and the village of Vanozero, Lodeinopolskiy district. In the program of the holiday: the Vepsian quadrille, the exhibition and auction of hand-made products of folk craftsmen, products of oyat ceramics, national songs and games, colorful theatrical performance, fragrant "oludas" and delicious "wickets".

Indigenous small peoples in the territory of the Boksitogorsky district - Karelians and Vepsians carry their culture, history, customs, traditions, all those values ​​that form the basis of their self-esteem and pride. Annually in July in the village of Sidorovo in the Boksitogorsky district a Vepsian culture festival "Cheese Day" is held. The holiday program includes: celebratory service, consecration of dairy products, performance of Veps folklore groups, Vepsian games and contests, competitions, exhibition of masters of decorative and applied art.

Every year in the village of Vystino of Kingisepp district there is a theatrical regional holiday of Izhora culture "Restoring, save". In the program of the festival: the performance of folklore groups, national Izhora and Northern dances with the audience, the exhibition-sale of products of folk applied art, traditional izhor cuisine, master classes for children and adults. Traditionally, folk groups traditionally take part in the festival: Izhora folklore ensemble "Rybachka", Izhora folklore ensemble "Soikinsky tunes", in which local folklore is studied in the Izhora language, Izhora community "Shoykula".

The territory of the Ust-Luga rural settlement of Kingisepp district is the place of compact residence of the drivers - the representatives of the Finno-Ugric group of peoples who settled here in the 10th-11th centuries. The children's ensemble "Linnut", in which local folklore is studied in the water language, the water community traditionally organizes a theatricalized regional festival of water culture "Luzhitskaya Folding".

The Festival of National Cultures "Visiting Oleny", held annually in the city of Vsevolozhsk, Vsevolozhsky District, has long become a tradition. The festival aims to preserve the national traditions of various peoples, improve and further develop national cultures, unite young people of different nationalities, strengthen friendship between peoples, foster respect for national traditions, and establish creative contacts between Russian and foreign countries' teams. Every year, musicians, dancers, musicians take part in the festive event.

Tatar national holiday "Tosnensky Sabantuy" is held in the settlement of Shapka in Tosnensky district. The decoration of the holiday is "lie" - an embroidered Tatar towel decorated with a festive maidan, it is given to winners of sports competitions and gaming competitions. The background of the holiday is tasting of the products of national cuisine, exhibitions of Tatar and Bashkir national clothes and paraphernalia.

Another festival that brings together representatives of Slavic and other peoples living on the territory of the region is the annual regional festival of national cultures "Slavonic Ring" in Volosovo. The festival reveals the historical roots of culture and traditions, national cuisine, the uniqueness of arts and crafts.

The regional folk festival "Nikolskina in Fedorovskoye" in the village Fedorovskoe of Tosnensky region in its program unites: an open festival of masters of applied art, Russian folk winter games, riding on horses, sledding from the mountains, master classes in applied kinds of folk crafts, Russian national cuisine, festive trade, performance of creative collectives of Tosnensky district and St. Petersburg.

The program of the folklore festival "Krasnaya Gorka" in Luga includes ritual activities: the magnification of brides and grooms, the rolling of colored eggs, traditional games, spring dances, folk games, swinging, holiday treats. The holiday is arranged with the participation of the club for the preservation of folk traditions "Ljubochagie" of the Luga City House of Culture and folklore collectives of the Luga district.

The folklore festival "Egoriev's merrymaking" is held in the city of Tosno and timed to the memory of St. George. One of the main tasks of this event is the popularization of Russian folk song, applied, ritual creativity. Guests of the holiday can play in folk games and fun, take part in thematic master classes. Within the framework of the holiday an exhibition is held selling products of folk crafts, performing folk groups, tasting national dishes.
